Things I noticed while at the DMV

  • Pretty much everyone here is really pissed off about something, all the time.
  • Time goes slower in places of misery.
  • Governmental offices seem to be staffed by people who are under the mistaken impression that they live in the 1980s.
  • One of the ladies at the front desk is abnormally and refreshingly patient - she called the same number four times before she moved on to the next.
  • It's really disconcerting to see a lot of motorcyclists getting licensed at eight in the morning.
  • "Ergonomically" molded plastic chairs are no more comfortable than regular plastic chairs.
  • Orange parking cones spark instant and inexplicable feelings of dismay.
  • My driving examiner hyper-pronounces my name, with heavy emphasis on the T.
  • Hair extensions never look good.
  • The license for my state is really, really ugly.
  • Being stranded (at home, in my case, which is impossibly, mind-bogglingly dull) is made infinitely worse when one is given an ounce more ability to free oneself, but is still just shy of actually being able to get away. What I'm trying to say is that it's frustrating to have a license, but no car or money with which to put said license to use.

Somebody rescue me. I gotta get out of here.
